Peinture (Etoile Bleue)

Peinture (Etoile Bleue)
"Peinture (Etoile Bleue) is one of the most important paintings of a very important artist in influencing the direction of modern art.

Helena Newman, head of Sotheby's impressionist and modern department say that Etoile Bleue "effortlessly bridging the transition between figurative and abstract art. His works from this period are supremely modern, timeless and of great universal appeal,"

By the 1920s, Miro had begun to move from strictly representational work to explore the subjects of imagination and dreams, thus works such as this mark a stylistic change from his early career.
The symbols in this painting are repeated and modified in later works.

Miró worked with strategies such as automatic drawing (where the hand is allowed to move freely as an extension of the unconscious), Surrealism (which philosophically strove to reveal authentic thought through juxtaposing unexpected symbols and forms), Expressionism (which applies emotional subjectivity to evoke moods or ideas), and Color Field Painting (that meditated on combinations, and or fields of color symbology).

As for an interpretation of Miro's Etoile Bleue the painting provides just enough information to stimulate the process of interpretation, but the same stimulation resists conclusions and continues to evoke questions.

Through the interpretive resistance of Miró’s artwork we are better able to witness our own processes of interpretation for what they are, reflections and projections of who we are—internally and as a community. And what we find is that who we are is just as unresolved as the image that we meditate upon.

Frog-like Baby (unidentified baby - Nepal)

Frog-like Baby (unidentified baby - Nepal)

On 2006, this bizarre-looking baby was born in Charikot, the headquarters of Dolakha district, attracting a huge number of onlookers to witness the astonishing sight.

The neck-less baby with its head almost totally sunk into the upper part of the body and with extraordinarily large eyeballs literally popping out of the eye-sockets, was born to Nir Bahadur Karki and Suntali Karki at the Gaurishnkar Hospital in Charikot. The Karki couple is a permanent resident of Dolakha's Bhirkot VDC.

The bizarre baby, however, died after half an hour of its birth, Suntali, the mother, informed. It was taken to the hospital after its death. The news about such a baby being brought to the hospital spread like wildfire and there were hundreds gathered at the hospital to have a look. The police had to be deployed to control the crowd.

The baby weighed 2kg at birth and was born after the normal nine-month gestation period. Suntali, already a mother of two normal daughters, was not suffering from any illness during the pregnancy. Nir Bahadur, the father, says he does not feel any remorse for the newly-born baby's death. "I am happy that nothing happened to my wife," he said.

NOTE: Our readers, Becca and Andrew, report us that "the baby has a condition called anencephaly, a neural tube defect (like the cyclops baby), with no proper brain formation. The baby would have died a few days later. That's why women are advised to take folate in early pregnancy." --Thank you! ,

The Pirate Bay Will Ditch Torrents by March

The world’s largest BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay has confirmed the removal of its torrents – by the end of this month the tracker will take down all torrent files shared by over 10 people. Although the users of the service are a bit concerned with this move, The Pirate Bay reassures everyone that the service will simply undergo slight changes and will further maintain existing files available via magnet links. The website confirmed that it is currently evolving, and is under no real threat of going under.

The Pirate Bay, the most popular BitTorrent website for over 5 years, won’t allow .torrent file downloads on its servers anymore. According to its representatives, by the end of February they will take the preliminary steps of the changeover.

Rather than taking down all torrent files at the same time, the service would start with those that have over 10 peers. This will work as a guarantee that Internet users will still be able to download less popular files, known to everyone to start slower via magnet links. Although some people perceive this change as an indicator of decline of the service, this belief is completely ungrounded. For users of the website the pending changeover is actually expected to go smoothly.

It is known that people will still be able to download all files as they usually did, but they now have to consider the following difference: they will start their downloads through magnet links instead of .torrent files. This means that the users will download the real material of the .torrent file from other people rather than from the Pirate Bay’s servers.

As for download initiation speed, it is expected to drop a bit for less popular downloads, but on the other side, all files will still be available. Uploading .torrent files will also be available just as before, because the BitTorrent tracker will convert them into magnet links automatically.

The team of developers for The Pirate Bay explained that the transition to a magnet website will be considered “a step forward in technology,” which is actually expected to consolidate the website’s place on the web.

After torrents are taken down, it will take less bandwidth to host The Pirate Bay proxy website, which serves to bypass broadband providers’ blockades in such countries as Belgium, Ireland, Italy and The Netherlands. Moreover, the new Pirate Bay will also be able to score higher in terms of portability.

The Legend of St. Valentine - The history of Valentine's Day

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The history of Valentine's Day--and the story of its patron saint--is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. But who was Saint Valentine, and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl--possibly his jailor's daughter--who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed "From your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and--most importantly--romantic figure. By the Middle Ages, perhaps due to this reputation, Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France

PTI facebook pages hacked, millions of fans lost

Millions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s fans are lost as more than 30 facebook fan pages have been hacked today in a single go. No one has taken the responsibility for this massive hack down of PTI’s facebook fan pages. Citing Insaf Students Federation Karachi President Arsalan Ghumman, a private TV channel reported that the official facebook pages of PTI chairman Imran Khan, Insaf Students Federation student wing, and several, more including that of Dr Alvi were hacked into and hidden from the public’s eye. The pages were hijacked at 3 pm on Friday, he said and added that “We are in touch with the Facebook authorities to recover them.” On the other hand, Facebook is notorious for taking such cases non-seriously. Reportedly, hacker first cracked the gmail id of Imran Ghazali, the web manager of PTI social media team, before cracking into facebook pages of the political party. It is unclear so far if pages were deleted or are kept private (hidden from public) by the hacker.

GoodCore’s Educational App for Preschoolers released and gets lauded

After the success of their popular Spot the Farm Animal, the GoodCore team presents the much-anticipated sequel: Spot the Jungle Animal!

The new app has been well-received to the extent that it got chosen as app-of-the-day by the popular parenting & educational website ‘SmartAppsForKids’. The goal of this website is provide the most complete source for parents and educators for info on an app before purchase (or in case of free apps, usage), their USP being unbiased, honest app “reviews” instead of promotions.

According to the reviews the app is “really cute straight free (no in-apps, no ads) app for toddlers and young preschoolers. There are A LOT of these identify-the-animal apps in the App Store, but this one is more well done than most and free!”

How Does It Work?

Get your young ones (age ~ 2 years) to explore the wild animals in a jungle. Watch as your child gets immersed in the sights and sounds of a Jungle and runs into colorful jungle animals on their way.

This app makes the animals appear “live” with subtle animations and vibrant colors. A friendly voice (think of her as your friendly preschool teacher) accompanies your child to the jungle, shows them around, and asks them to identify animals on the screen.

Just like any parent, we appreciate teachers who are friendly and encouraging. If the child makes a “mistake” in this app, the teacher gently – almost amused at the mistake – encourages them to try again.

If the child answers correctly, the teacher applauds the effort and moves onto the next animal on the screen.Watch as your child moves through five different jungle settings and identifies multiple animals on each screen.

You will love it when kids’ eyes lighten up looking at the colorful animal characters, at their voices, and how the animals react upon being touched!

AAFIA SIDDIQUI CONTRACTS CANCER IN US JAIL

KARACHI - Pakistani scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is serving 86-year imprisonment in a US prison cell, has contracted cancer and allegedly become pregnant as a result of sexual abuse during her confinement.
Talking to The News Tribe, her sister Dr Fouzia Siddiqui said she had come to know through Pakistani Consul General in Houston that Aafia had been diagnosed with a cancer. She added that earlier there were reports that the Pakistani scientist had become pregnant due to alleged sexual abuse during imprisonment. However, the Pakistan Embassy has not playing its role in either confirming or rejecting the reports.
She said that former Pakistan ambassador to US Husain Haqqani was called back the next day when he told us about the condition of Aafia.
She quoted Pakistan Consul General Aqil Nadeem as saying that he was requesting the jail authorities for providing medical facilities to the Pakistani scientist.
Fouzia said keeping in view the reputation of the Roswell jail and the nature of her sister’s disease the request was insufficient.
She urged the Pakistan Embassy to arrange a team of physicians comprising doctors from jail as well as from private sector for Aafia.
Fouzia said that newly-appointed Pakistan Ambassador to US Sherry Rehman had assured her all possible help before leaving for America to take up her new assignment. However, despite making contact with her, the envoy has not given any response in this regard.
Speaking about the reports of Aafia’s alleged pregnancy, she said that her family was told about it after the Pakistani scientist showed some symptoms in the women jail.
Fouzia appealed to the US and Pakistani authorities to arrange a telephonic conversation of her mother with Aafia.
Earlier, British journalist and human rights activist Yvonne Ridley had declared the long punishment of Aafia as just ‘one step away from death’.
Talking about attitude of Pakistani politicians being adopted on the Aafia issue, Fouzia said she would not believe in their statements until and unless her sister returns to Pakistan. She complained that the politicians had only exploited the Aafia issue just to gain political mileage.
She said that Aafia had been provided substandard food at jail, which led to health problems as she had complained of it during her earlier telephonic conversations.
The News Tribe, a UK-based bilingual news website has approached Pakistan Ambassador to US Sherry Rehman through an email to get her point of view on the issue but received no response till the filing of this news.

SOPA, PIPA: What you need to know

Having trouble using Wikipedia today? That's because the popular crowd-sourced online encyclopedia is participating in an "Internet blackout" in protest of two controversial anti-piracy bills: The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA ) and its Senate companion, the Protect IP Act (PIPA ).

Pictures: Websites go dark to protest SOPA

The bills are intended to strengthen protections against copyright infringement and intellectual property theft, but Internet advocates say they would stifle expression on the World Wide Web. In essence, the legislation has pitted content providers -- like the music and film industries -- against Silicon Valley.

"It's not a battle of left versus right," said progressive activist Adam Green, whose organization Progressive Change Campaign Committee on Tuesday hosted a press conference with opponents of the bills. "Frankly, it's a battle of old versus new."

Here's a basic look at the actions taking place today and the legislation causing all the fuss.

What's going on today?

The popular link-sharing site Reddit got the ball rolling for today's 24-hour Internet blackout. In addition to Reddit and Wikipedia, other sites participating include BoingBoing, Mozilla, WordPress, TwitPic, MoveOn.org and the ICanHasCheezBurger network. Search giant Google is showing its solidarity with a protest doodle and message: "Tell Congress: Please don't censor the web," but the site planned no complete blackout.

Other sites -- like Facebook and Twitter -- oppose the legislation in question but aren't participating in today's blackout.

In addition to the Internet-based protests, some opponents are physically protesting on Wednesday outside of their congressional representatives' offices. Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian said in Tuesday's press conference it will "probably be the geekiest, most rational protest ever."

What does the legislation do?

There are already laws that protect copyrighted material, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). But while the DMCA focuses on removing specific, unauthorized content from the Internet, SOPA and PIPA instead target the platform -- that is, the site hosting the unauthorized content.

The bills would give the Justice Department the power to go after foreign websites willfully committing or facilitating intellectual property theft -- "rogue" sites like The Pirate Bay. The government would be able to force U.S.-based companies, like Internet service providers, credit card companies and online advertisers, to cut off ties with those sites.

Why content providers want SOPA and PIPA

Content groups like the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and business representatives like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, argue that innovation and jobs in content-creating industries are threatened by growing Internet piracy. Overseas websites, they argue, are a safe haven for Internet pirates profiting off their content.

According to the Global Intellectual Property Center, which is part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, intellectual property-intensive sectors employ more than 19 million people in the U.S. and create $7.7 trillion in gross output. Foreign website operators currently outside the bounds of U.S. law; SOPA and PIPA would help quell illegitimate Internet activity.

In a statement , former Sen. Chris Dodd, who is now chairman and CEO of the MPAA, called the blackout day a "gimmick."

"It's a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests," Dodd said.

CBS Corporation, which owns CBSNews.com, is a member of the Copyright Alliance -- an industry group representing content producers that supports SOPA and PIPA.

Why Internet companies oppose SOPA and PIPA

Internet companies and their investors would readily say that they're holding the "blackout" to protect their corporate interests -- and the entire burgeoning Internet-based economy.

"The success of Reddit... is one of the smaller examples of the success that has happened in our industry -- and will continue to unless bills like SOPA or PIPA become law," Ohanian said Tuesday.

Under the rules SOPA or PIPA would impose, Ohanian and others argue, start ups wouldn't be able to handle the costs that come with defending their sites against possible violations. Such sites would not be able to pay the large teams of lawyers that established sites like Google or Facebook can afford.

The legislation in question targets foreign companies whose primary purpose is to sell stolen or counterfeit goods -- but opponents say domestic companies could still be held liable for linking to their content. While sites like Reddit wouldn't have a legal duty to monitor their sites all the time, "you might have your pants sued off of you" if you don't, said Jayme White, staff director for the Senate Finance Subcommittee on international trade.

Brad Burnham, managing partner at the venture capital fund Union Square Ventures, said his company has avoided investing in companies related to the music industry because of the copyright risks -- but under the proposed legislation, that risk would hit just about any Internet company. SOPA and PIPA, he said, "takes the risk of frivolous litigation... to the entire Internet."

That should be a concern, Burnham said, when the Internet accounts for 21 percent of economic growth among developed nations, according to one study .

The impacts could go beyond the economy, some argue. Rebecca MacKinnon, a senior fellow at the nonpartisan New America Foundation, argues that if blogging platforms are motivated to monitor their content, that could have "a tremendous chilling effect on people tyring to conduct political discourse and trying to use content in a fair use context."

Where does the legislation stand?

Opponents of SOPA and PIPA celebrated when, earlier this month, authors of both bills decided to set aside the most controversial aspect of them -- language that would have let the Justice Department force Internet Service Providers to block the domains of suspected foreign "rogue" sites. Also, over the weekend, the White House suggested it wants to see modifications to the legislation.

The Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on PIPA on January 24.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, who sponsored SOPA, said Tuesday he expects the committee to continue work on the House bill in February.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., meanwhile, is opposed to the legislation and will today officially introduce an alternative -- the Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade (OPEN) Act. Issa said Tuesday he expects his bill to have more co-sponsors than SOPA has in the House and that "once members of Congress see a viable alternative... I think we can get to a consensus."

The OPEN Act would make the International Trade Commission, rather than the Justice Department, responsible for policing U.S. connections to foreign rogue sites. Placing that responsibility in the hands of one entity, rather than the whole court system, would make the process more transparent, Issa argues.

Inside A $1.5 Million Cave House

Inside A $1.5 Million Cave House.

Locals refer to it as the Cave House and the nickname is apt. Sitting on 37 acres just outside of Bisbee, AZ, a mining town-turned-Baby Boomer retirement haven about 80 miles from Tucson, the Chulo Canyon Cave House is carved into an outcropping of granite boulder, extending more than 2,000-square feet into a desert grotto.

The strange and unusual dwelling is up for grabs and could be yours for $1.5 million. It occupies 2,890-square feet of living space and comes with a 890-square foot guest house, a subterranean game room underneath the guest house, a library building, a stand-alone workshop space, a separate home office, and a carport. The main house features rough petrous walls, rock and cement ceilings, and potable wall water seep that is collected from a natural spring. There’s a glass-walled sunroom, a commercial-grade kitchen with stained glass cabinets and mosaic tiling, an-eight person dining room, a sunken living room, two full bathrooms, a sleep loft with walk-in closet tucked below underneath the loft stairs, and a back room that is currently used as an exercise and yoga room.

In pictures: Inside A $1.5 Million Cave House
The desert abode was built by the current owner, specifically the current owner’s late husband who recently passed away. “It’s technically a man made cave that was actually blasted out of the rock existing there,” explains Jean Noreen, a Realtor with Bisbee Realty and the listing agent for the Cave House. ”But it has all of the good qualities of a cave for living like it stays the same temperature all year round.” Maintaining a so-called ‘rock temperature,’ the house never slides below 66 degrees Fahrenheit or above 72 degrees.

The main house greets guest with a wall of windows before extending back into the cave.

Creating this man-made cavern home meant recruiting a mining engineer who, using the Swedish straight wall mining technique, injected the ceilings with roof bolts and excavated blasted rock with ammonium nitrate.

But as attention-grabbing as the stone-forged main lair is, the property’s zaniness doesn’t end there. Starting with the pools, which are not your typical chlorinated in-grounds. Rather, the home’s natural pools are a short hike away, up the side of a nearby mountain and fed by a freshwater creek for six to eight months out of the year. The higher up the mountain you climb the more pools you have to choose from. The owners also installed a carefully camouflaged hot tub.

A perk of living in a cave is consistent temperature, which stays between 66 and 72 degrees.

The other buildings on the premises peddle some secretive amenities, too. Lying below the two-story guest house is a game room with a separate entrance. The subterranean space is constructed of cement blocks and fluorescent lighting. The nearby library building, also constructed of cement blocks, doubles as a safe house, with a back room accessible through a roll-down metal security door hidden behind a sliding glass door. The back room is equipped with a Murphy bed, an air conditioner, an antique vault and a climate-controlled gun safe.

The Cave House has graced the Multiple Listing Services sporadically for years. "When we first put it on we did so for close to $3 million," says Noreen. The price bumped down to $1.5 million last year, when the owners decided they were truly serious about selling. But despite the 50% price chop, a buyer has yet to put up an accepted offer. Noreen believes it will be nontraditional home buyers that ultimately purchase this pad: "It would make a great retreat for something like a yoga retreat or as an alternative healing place. It’s very peaceful."

The real estate market in Bisbee has suffered its share of foreclosures in the past several years and prices plunged about 20% from their early 2008 highs, according to Zillow. Now home prices are cautiously inching back up. Noreen says homes are selling at prices that haven’t been seen since the late 1990s. “We’ve actually been really active…and we have a whole realm of people coming in to buy at these lower prices,” she remarks. Now to find a well-off a New Age nature-lover who wants to plunk down seven figures to live in a cave.

A BlackBerry handset is displayed in Washington.

TORONTO/SEOUL (Reuters) - Research In Motion is not onSamsung Electronics Co's immediate shopping list, but the ailing Blackberry maker may still be attractive to Asian smartphone makers looking to compete against Google's Android, the world's fastest growing mobile platform.

Samsung said on Wednesday it has no interest in buying RIM or licensing its operating system, refuting a tech blog report that Canada-based RIM was looking to sell itself to the South Korean technology giant.

Shares of RIM, which has long been the subject of takeover speculation with its stock valuation lingering at multi-year lows, jumped more than 10 percent on the blog report, but fell back after Samsung's denial.

Product delays and profit warnings have eroded confidence in RIM, once at the cutting edge of smartphone technology for business users, and its management.

But RIM, still valued at above $9 billion, may hold enough allure to interest Asian vendors like LG Electronics Inc, HTC and ZTE, which don't have their own platform, said a source at a major Asian handset maker.

"As we don't have our own platform, it's (RIM) an attractive option to look into and we're flexible about anything," said the source, who has direct knowledge of the matter, but who declined to be named as he is not authorized to talk to the media.

Samsung has its own platform called bada and is seeking to boost its presence by merging it with a platform backed by chipmaker Intel.

"We haven't considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM)," said Samsung spokesman James Chung, adding that Samsung had not been approached by the Canadian firm for a takeover and was not interested in licensing RIM's mobile platform.

The Boy Genius Report website cited an unidentified source as saying RIM co-Chief Executive Jim Balsillie was meeting with companies interested in either licensing its software or buying a part or all of RIM, with Samsung leading the pack.

After Samsung's denial, Nasdaq-listed RIM shares tumbled 5.3 percent to $16.55 in extended trading, after closing up 8 percent at a 6-week high of $17.47. The stock rose as much as 11.1 percent.

LICENSING DEAL?

Samsung may not be interested in buying RIM outright, but some analysts say that adding BlackBerry software may be a good fit with its strategy of bolstering software capability and adding corporate subscribers.

"We see RIM licensing BlackBerry 10 and charging $10 per device," Jefferies analyst Peter Misek said in a note, referring to RIM's operating system.

"Samsung and HTC would do this to gain access to RIM's subscriber base, diversify away from sole dependence on Android and create more enterprise exposure. BlackBerry 10 is effectively an Android derivative and, therefore, many bridges are possible."

Samsung has traditionally focused on growing its business from within and has no track record of major deals in recent years. In 2008, it withdrew a $5.9 billion unsolicited bid for flash memory card maker SanDisk due to the U.S. firm's deepening losses and uncertain outlook.

But it has since become more flexible on M&A as the hardware-focused firm seeks to boost its software capabilities to counter Apple and Google.

"It'd be helpful for Samsung or HTC to license BlackBerry OS so they can gain access to the corporate space," said Vincent Chen, an analyst at Yuanta Securities.

Shares in Samsung slid 1.1 percent in Seoul on Wednesday, underperforming the main KOSPI share index, which slipped 0.3 percent.

Jefferies' Misek said RIM could announce a deal within three months, and the appointment of a new chairperson could speed up the process. A spokesman for RIM declined to comment on the blog report.

Balsillie and fellow co-CEO Mike Lazaridis also share a role as board chairman, but, after pressure from investors, a committee made up of the rest of RIM's board is due to report this month on possible changes to the unusual structure.

RIM already turned down takeover overtures from Amazon.com Inc and other potential buyers because it prefers to fix its problems on its own, people with knowledge of the situation told Reuters recently.

RIM's shares have jumped nearly 40 percent since December 21, when Reuters reported such interest, but the stock is still down almost 75 percent from a year ago.

Legendary lion tamers to premiere new show

The circus of the legendary Russian lion tamers, brothers Edgar and Askold Zapashny, are set to premiere their new epic show, "Camelot 2: the Envoy of the Gods."
The new show is in fact the second part of their previous project “Camelot”, which premiered two years ago and made big noise in show business. “Camelot 2” promises to be even more spectacular, featuring all manner of circus acts, including of course the brothers’ trademark tricks with lions and tigers. Edgar and Askold Zapashny will perform as two god-brothers, who send their envoy to Earth to establish peace there.
"This project was from the beginning thought to consist of several shows… And I assume, the spectators are waiting for the new show with anticipation, as almost all tickets are already sold out," the director and a scriptwriter of the show, Askold Zapashny, said at a media conference.
The Zapashny brothers come from a long line of animal tamers. And the latest generation, according Askold Zapashny, is not planning to stop any time soon. No veiled threat: ‘Destructive’ Barbie off Iranian shelves

The “B who U wanna B” American icon has outstayed her welcome, according to Reuters – and will be removed from every toy shop in Iran. The country has been toying with this idea of a ban since 1996, but only now has it become a reality.
Stories of American citizens getting into trouble in Iran have been rather frequent. Usually, they are somehow connected to politics and espionage – but that is not why one Barbie Millicent Roberts has become persona non grata in the Islamic republic.
No, Mattel’s world-famous plastic creation has been deemed “un-Islamic” and destructive to the people’s cultural values. And according to some shopkeepers in Tehran, the morality police are determined to put an end to this particular toy story.
They are not the first to develop such a game plan. In 2003, Saudi Arabia first banned, and then outlawed the Barbie doll for being “offensive to Islam”. But some plastic is still considered fantastic, even in the more conservative states. Fulla, a doll made and distributed by UAE, is marketed specifically to children of Islamic and Middle Eastern countries, and is a huge success.
And another example – rumors of a toy US drone the Iranians captured in December. That, according to news sources quoting Iranian media, should hit the shelves soon – and hopefully drone out any Barbie backlash.

Oh la la! French knickers museum outrage

When are the French displeased at semi-naked women tripping through a picturesque building?

Before you say “never” – Paris’s Musee D’Orsay is threatening legal action against one of France’s leading lingerie manufacturers for a publicity stunt, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Three models waltzed into the museum fully dressed, but lost their garments soon afterwards, running through the halls, filmed all the while by a hand-held amateur camera.

The stunt took place earlier this month. The video went viral on the internet – he museum curators went ballistic, says French newspaper Liberation. Musee D’Orsay communications director Amelie Hardivillier insists the filming was done without permission from the museum, and she would never have allowed it to happen.

The museum’s directors claim the filming didn’t just violate the rules of the Musee D’Orsay, but also the rights of visitors, and threaten to sue lingerie manufacturer Etam if the video is not removed from the internet.

The D’Orsay is one of France’s leading museums, housing Impressionist masterpieces by Monet and Renoir among others.

Un-Patriotic? Secret US missile cargo bound for S. Korea busted

Un-Patriotic? Secret US Missile cargo Bound for S. Korea Busted.

A ship heading to South Korea and China from Germany has been impounded in a Finnish port after a shipment of dozens of American Patriot anti-aircraft missiles and explosives was found aboard.
On board the British bulk carrier Thor Liberty, Finnish customs found 69 surface-to-air Patriot missiles and 160 tons of picrite explosives, being carried under the guise of fireworks.

The ship was detained on December 15 but the news of its volatile contents only leaked on Wednesday.

The shipment was believed to be en route to South Korea. The consignee of the explosive cargo is a private individual.

The logistics company moving the shipment insists the arms and explosives got on board the Thor Liberty “by mistake”.

The Thor Liberty moored in the Finnish port of Mussalo in Kotka on December 13 to pick up a load of wood on its way to China and South Korea, when it attracted the attention of Finnish law enforcement, reported Finnish Interior Minister Päivi Räsänen, who called the incident ‘abnormal’.

The Minister said the detained ship would be allowed to proceed on its way after Christmas, when it will be granted permission to leave by the Finnish Ministry of Defense.

Päivi Räsänen reassured the local community that there was never any danger to people living near the port as the shipment was properly packed. However, it was being “transported in an unsafe manner.”

The Minister said Finland had conveyed details of the incident to the authorities in Germany, from where the shipment was dispatched.

“The German police are co-operating with the Finnish investigation team,” the minister said.

Thor Liberty was built in Germany in 1994 and belongs to Dania Marine, which is registered on the Isle of Man. The crew reportedly consists of citizens of Ukraine.

The American anti-aircraft missile complex Patriot is produced by Raytheon Corporation. It is capable of engaging targets at a distance of 240 kilometers at altitudes of up to 24 kilometers and is reportedly capable of intercepting warheads of ballistic missiles.

I’ve learnt nothing from my mother: Abhishek

News reports claim that Abhishek Bachchan is going to pick a name for his baby daughter this month. Apparently, those close to the family insist that the couple is waiting for the kharwas period, which is considered inauspicious, to come to an end. Following that, a lavish ceremony will be organised for the baby post January 15 (Makar Sankranti, which is when the period finishes).

Bring all this up and the 38-year-old says, “I haven’t figured the name yet. But I’ll lock on it soon. Aishwarya (wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and I didn’t know whether we were going to have a boy or girl. So we didn’t jot down names.”

However, he admits they want to settle for a name that starts with the alphabet ‘A’. “We had shortlisted a few, but it’s difficult to choose that ‘one’,” asserts the new father, adding, “I can’t tell you the names that we’re considering right now. Ash and I want it to be with the letter A.”

The new father is often compared to his dad — Amitabh Bachchan — in terms of his acting skills and box-office hits. Does he feel his daughter too may face those pressures? “It’s a blessing to be my parents’ son and my grandparents’ grandson. My child will grow up saying her parents are actors. But I don’t want her to use that as a crutch. She will have to work her way around things the way her parents and grandparents did,” states Abhishek, whose forthcoming film, Players releases this Friday.

There’s often talk about Abhishek learning a lot from his father, however, he has never spoken much about his mother, Jaya Bachchan. “I learnt nothing from my mother! That’s your headline,” he laughs, adding, “She taught me that you don’t always have to be doing something in front of the camera to get attention. You can hold the audience with a close-up shot, without twitching. You don’t need to act.”

A couple of years down the line, his girl will start going to school. And even though he was sent to boarding school, he isn’t sure whether he’ll be able to stay away from her for that long. “Though it’s a fantastic experience. That kind of schooling provides great freedom and takes you out of the cocoon, literally,” he says, adding, “Eventually, it’s upto her, she can study whatever she wants and become who she’d like to. I’m fine as long as she’s happy.”

Facebook Set To Hit 1 Billion Users By August

Love him or hate him, you can’t fail but be impressed at how Mark Zuckerberg has turned Facebook into the juggernaut that it is today.

Facebook Logo

Not content with hitting 700 million users, then 800 million users Facebook’s young CEO and co-founder could soon be celebrating reaching the magic 1 billion user mark, and it could happen as early as this coming August.

The prediction that Facebook will reach its one billionth user is, while mind boggling, perhaps one that we should have all seen coming. The Social Network has seen rapid growth since its inception back in 2006 and has shown no sign of tailing off.

According to Gregory Lyons, a senior analyst at iCrossing, Facebook’s user base growth in the UK and US has possibly slowed, or even stopped recently. After all, there are only so many people in those two countries, but luckily for Zuckerberg, Facebook is continuing to grow at an amazing rate in countries such as Brazil and India. That continued growth could see Facebook reach 1 billion users, should Lyons’ numbers be correct.

With only 3% of India’s population on Facebook and 16% of Brazil’s (compared to 49% of America’s population or 47% of the UK’s population) countries such as these will clearly contribute heavily to Facebook’s continued growth.

Facebook’s meteoric rise from dorm room to being one of the biggest tech companies on the planet is nothing short of remarkable, but it has had its fair share of bumps along the way.

Mark Zuckerberg has found himself in the middle of carious lawsuits over the last few years, with his co-founder and various others taking to the courts in an attempt to gain access to the huge swathes of money rolling Facebook’s way.

In fact, the story of Facebook’s creation is so compelling that it was even made into a movie called The Social Network though it is debatable just how accurate parts of the storyline are.

Facebook is clearly on the verge of becoming the world’s phonebook, turning itself into the way people communicate and stay in touch. Having a billion users can only help make that vision a reality.

STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters... S.T..R ...
My friend sent this to me ...and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a party, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. (they offered to call ambulance)

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm , Ingrid passed away.)
She had suffered a stroke at the party . Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.

Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this...

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.
The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions :

S * Ask the individual to SMILE ..
T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg 'It is sunny out today').
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the ambulance and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

NOTE : Another 'sign' of a stroke is
1. Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue.
2. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

A prominent cardiologist says if everyone who gets this status shares it; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.......
